The Shopping Game

February 26 2008, 4:23 AM

Here is a game you might want to play from time to time to improve business acumen. Next time you go shopping, look at the products on display and try to determine the reason behind the reason why people buy something. For instance, underwear that hides the smell and sound of farts (yes, it exists). What are people really buying? They are buying social acceptance and less embarressments. They are also buying the freedom of farting as and when they want without the social consequence.

How to measure the health of your relationships

February 25 2008, 1:01 AM

Do you have a healthy relationship with someone you know? Do you like or hate the person? Here's a way to find out:

When the person does something that you feel is good, do you:
- Attribute it to an internal reason (because he's a kind person, etc)
- Attribute it to an external reason (he wants to get a pay raise, etc)

When the person does something that you feel is bad, do you
- Attribute it to an internal reason (he's a bad, bad man)
- Attribute it to an external reason (he's having a tough day at work)

If you choose an internal reason for the person doing something good and an external reason for the person doing something bad, that congratulations, you have a good relationship with that person.

If you choose an external reason for the person doing something good and an internal reason for the person doing something bad, then you might need to re-examine your relationship with that person.

Adjusting your body language to adjust your reacti

When you want to take in new information (or as one says, "be a sponge"), what body language should you have? First, open and widen your eyes to take in more information. Then make sure that your arms and your hands are in an open, receiving position. This is just an example of how adjusting your body language could adjust how you react to things that you could use to your advantage. By learning about physiological reactions, you will be able to calm yourself down when you are angry, panicked, or stressed, be able to focus when you need to, etc, etc...
